Category 1 campfires will be permitted across the Central Okanagan, including West Kelowna, starting Sept. 3 at noon due to cooler, wetter weather. Open burning remains prohibited, and residents are reminded to follow fire safety regulations, fully extinguish campfires and smoking materials, and check local restrictions before lighting any fire.

The City of West Kelowna is seeking residents interested in volunteering on the Advisory Planning Commission (APC). The APC advises Council on land use, community planning, proposed bylaws and certain permits. Successful applicants will serve for the remainder of the current term, ending Dec. 31, 2027. Applications are due Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2026, at 4 p.m.

Council Highlights from the Aug. 25, 2026 meeting include updates on wildfire response, regional health-care priorities, affordable housing, major capital projects, childcare, pedestrian improvements and the Mount Boucherie Community Centre restoration. Council also adopted a new Noxious Weed Bylaw, approved updates to recreation fees and charges and considered proposed changes to Council remuneration.

West Kelowna Council has adopted a new Noxious Weed Control Bylaw requiring property owners and occupants to prevent the growth and spread of designated noxious weeds. From April 1 to Sept. 30, noxious weeds and grasses must be kept below 20 cm (8 inches). The City will focus on education and awareness in 2027, giving property owners time to identify and manage noxious weeds.

A swimming advisory has been issued for Marina Park Beach. The beach is not closed, but swimming advisory signs have been posted so that the public can make an informed choice based on latest beach water quality readings.
