     Supporting Legislation Against Looting Evacuated Homes

    Council agreed to send a letter of support for a Private Member’s Bill C-447 proposed by MP Dan Albas which would hold those who take advantage of emergency evacuations to engage in looting or vandalizing evacuated properties accountable to a much greater degree than is currently allowed in the Criminal Code. West Kelowna has experienced these crimes on multiple occasions as the community experienced.

    Mayor Gord Milsom praised the efforts of the City’s 2018 Snow Stars, two of which were in attendance at the meeting to receive their award. The City’s Snow Star Program recognizes residents who assist others in the community without being asked or expecting thanks.

    BC Hydro on Power Security
    Council was provided information by BC Hydro about a planned upgrade to the Westbank Substation which BC Hydro says serves 22,000 customers in West Kelowna and Peachland.  The upgrade is intended to increase capacity of the substation, served by a single transmission line running from the Nicola Substation to Westbank, and to replace old equipment and accommodate a connection for a new transmission line.

  • Notice of Blasting at Tallus Ridge

    The City of West Kelowna has issued a blasting permit to T & A Rock Works to allow the continuation of works by Ryser Developments on the Tallus Ridge project in West Kelowna.   Blasting is expected to begin today, April 15, 2019, and continue for approximately three weeks.
