Work the 2026 election

The local general election will be taking place in October, and we are now recruiting election workers for advance voting and general voting day.

Step 3: Contact the elections team to book a five-minute interview by phone or email.

Successful applicants will receive training before voting begins.

Come to our job fair

Meet with our elections team at the Election Worker Job Fair to learn about available positions and complete a short interview.

  • Date: Wednesday, Sept. 9 and Thursday, Sept. 10
  • Time: 3 p.m. – 7 p.m.
  • Location: West Kelowna City Hall, Council Chamber - 3731 Old Okanagan Hwy.

Presiding election official (PEO)

Prior election experience required.

Responsibilities include:

  • overseeing voting polls
  • supervising election staff
  • ensuring election procedures are followed
  • completing ballot accounting
  • securing ballots and the voting tabulators

Assistant presiding election official (APEO)

Prior election experience required.

Responsibilities include:

  • supporting the PEO
  • supporting voting poll operations
  • providing direction and assistance to voters
  • registering non-resident property electors
  • offering guidance on using the voting tabulator
  • preparing the ballot account summary and assists with ballot accounting

Election official (EO)

No prior election experience required.

Responsibilities include:

  • supporting the PEO and APEO
  • registering voters
  • distributing ballots
  • supporting voters
  • setting up and closing voting locations

All election workers must attend a 1.5 hour in -person training session in later September.

Training rate: $40

  • Are legally able to work in Canada
  • Are 18 years or older
  • Can attend mandatory election training in September
  • Are available on general voting day and/or other advance voting days
  • Are physically able to work the full voting day (approx. 7 a.m. – 9:00 pm depending on position)
  • Are able to always remain on site at the voting location, from the beginning of the shift until the end of the shift
  • Can make a solemn declaration of impartiality and have no personal connection to any candidate

Shift: 7:00 a.m. – 9:30 p.m.

Dates: 

  • Wednesday, October 7, 2026 - advance voting
  • Tuesday, October 13, 2026 - advance voting
  • Thursday, October 15, 2026 - advance voting
  • Saturday, October 17 - general voting day
