• Pre-campaign period begins: July 20.
• Nomination period: Sept. 1 at 9 a.m. to Sept. 11 at 4 p.m.
• Declaration of candidates: Sept. 11 after 4 p.m., news release will be issued publicly.
• Last day to withdraw candidacy: Sept. 18 at 4 p.m.
• Pre-campaign period ends: Sept. 18.
• Campaign period: 12:01 a.m. Sept. 19 to 11:59 p.m. Oct. 17.
• Declaration of election by voting or acclamation: Sept. 21 at 4 p.m.
• Announcement of preliminary election results: Oct. 17, sometime after 8 p.m. news release will be issued publicly.
• Inaugural meeting and elected officials' oath of office: Nov. 3 at 1:30 p.m. City of West Kelowna Council Chambers, 3731 Old Okanagan Highway.

Freedom of information and protection of privacy

Nomination papers are collected and reported under guidelines of the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act and Elections BC. In accordance with Local Government Act, Section 89 (9), a person who inspects or otherwise accesses nomination documents under this section must not use the information included in them except for the purposes of this act or purposes authorized under Section 63 of the Local Elections Campaign Financing Act. Candidates are prohibited from using or altering the City of West Kelowna’s logos, city colours, graphics, or any other item of City intellectual property for any and all campaign-related purposes. This includes but is not limited to all print and electronic materials including signs, flyers, brochures, e-mails, websites, social media, photography, videography, business cards, postcards, letterheads, leaflets, posters, fridge magnets and promotional items.

The City of West Kelowna acts as a neutral party, ensuring fairness and transparency to effectively conduct the 2026 General Local Election and will not endorse or support candidates' uses of city logos, symbols or materials.

Resident electors

You are eligible to vote as a resident elector if you are:

• 18 years of age or older on voting day, Oct. 17.
• A Canadian citizen.
• A resident living in British Columbia for at least six months before voting, since of April 16, 2026.
• Not disqualified from voting due to an election offence.
• Not ineligible to vote for other offences.

West Kelowna non-resident elector

You may vote as a non-resident elector if you:

• Are 18 years of age or older on voting day, Oct. 17.
• Are a Canadian citizen.
• Are not a resident in the City of West Kelowna.
• Are not ineligible to vote for other reasons such as elections offences.
• Have lived in British Columbia for at least six months before voting, since April 16, 2026.
• Have owned property within the City of West Kelowna for at least 30 days before voting, since September 16, 2022.
• Have written consent from the majority of the property's co-owners to vote as the non-resident elector.

Proof is required using the Non-resident Elector Consent Form. Bring the form to the polling station when voting; or obtain the form from the polling station and return to vote with the completed and signed document.

Mail ballot information

Anyone who is eligible to vote in West Kelowna may vote by mail ballot instead of an in-person voting opportunity.

How to request a mail ballot package

Eligible voters in West Kelowna can request a mail ballot package by:

• Filling out the online application form.Completing the application form in-person at City Hall, 3731 Old Okanagan Highway.

Mail ballot package distribution

Mail ballot packages will be provided to voters as soon as possible after the ballots are printed. You can select one of the following options to receive your mail ballot package:

• Pick up your mail ballot package in person at City Hall, 3731 Old Okanagan Highway.
• Arrange for someone else to pick up the mail ballot package on your behalf from City Hall.
• Mail it to a residential address via regular Canada Post delivery.
• Arrange and pay for the package to be mailed via a courier service from City Hall.

Returning your mail ballot package

You are responsible for ensuring that the Chief Election Officer receives your completed mail ballot package no later than 8 p.m. on General Voting Day, Saturday, Oct. 17, 2026.

Please note: The deadline to receive ballots, via mail, is Friday, Oct. 16 as mail is not delivered to City Hall on Saturdays.

Drop off in person at West Kelowna City Hall

You may have someone drop off your mail ballot package, on your behalf, to West Kelowna City Hall, at 3731 Old Okanagan Highway, during regular office hours, Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., excluding holidays, up to Friday, Oct. 16. Offices are closed Sept. 30 for National Day of Truth and Reconciliation and Oct. 12 for Thanksgiving.

The Chief Election Officer will also accept mail ballots through the secure drop box, look for the labelled drop box sign, outside of City Hall until 8 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 17.

How to register to vote

The City of West Kelowna uses same-day voter registration. Voters do not need to register in advance to vote in the City of West Kelowna general local election. 

West Kelowna residents

• Register to vote at the polling station on voting day.
• You must provide two pieces of identification, one with a signature, that confirms who you are and where you presently live.

West Kelowna Non-Residents

• Register to vote at the polling station on voting day.
• You must provide two pieces of identification, one with a signature, that confirms who you are and where you presently live.
• You must provide written consent from the majority of the property's co-owners to vote as the non-resident elector.
• Bring the completed and signed Non-resident Elector Consent Form when you arrive to vote at the polling station; or obtain the form from the polling station and return to vote with the completed and signed document.

Examples of acceptable identification

Voters must present at least two pieces of acceptable identification at the voting station that show proof of identity and place of residence. At least one of the two forms of ID must contain a signature:

• B.C. Driver's License.
• B.C. Identification Card.
• B.C. Services Card (BCID).
• Another card issued by the Government of B.C. or Canada that shows your name and address.
• Credit card.
• Debit card.
• Canadian passport.
• Property tax notice.
• Certificate of Canadian citizenship.
• Government-issued military identification card.
• Firearms possession and acquisition licence.
• Certificate of Indigenous status.
• Current utility bill containing elector's name and address.
• Owner's certificate of insurance and vehicle licence as issued by ICBC.
• Other documents to sufficiently satisfy the Chief Election Officer.

The City of West Kelowna makes every effort to ensure polling stations are accessible.

Curbside

If you find that a polling station is difficult to access, curbside voting is available. Simply ask another voter to inform election staff of your need for assistance and election staff will bring your ballot to your vehicle.

Translation services

If you require an interpreter, please bring one with you to the polling station.

Support while voting

If you are unable to mark your own ballot, you may ask a relative, friend or election staff to assist you.
