West Kelowna Council Highlights November 12, 2109

Multi Sport Dome Grand Opening
Mayor Gord Milsom announced that the City will be holding its Grand Opening Celebration for the new Multi Sport Dome on Saturday, November 16. The public is invited to join Mayor and Council, as well as special invited guests, at the dome location at 2139 McDougall Road. Doors will open at 10 a.m. Attendees will be shown what makes West Kelowna’s sports dome so special. There will be giveaways and prize draws and participants will be taken through a few fun drills with our friends from minor soccer, baseball and football associations. The public is welcome to join us to officially cut the ribbon at this fantastic facility.

Blackmun Bay
Council agreed to deny the application to amend the City of West Kelowna Zoning Bylaw for 2211 Campbell Road, the development known as Blackmun Bay. Council also rescinded first and second readings of the City of West Kelowna Official Community Plan Amendment Bylaw. The file has now been closed. The file involved a 7.1-hectare property and included a mixed use development proposal with various housing types including resort apartments, townhouses, a hotel, marina and boat launch. The matter was the subject of a public hearing on October 23 at the Westbank Lions Community Centre which was attended by over 400 people.

Interior Health Partnership
Council agreed to enter into a partnership agreement with Interior Health to collaborate on opportunities to improve community health and wellness. The City of West Kelowna and Interior Health both share a common goal to see improvements in community health and wellness, and reduce risk factors associated with Chronic Disease. The City, through its policies and actions, can impact social determinants of health such as income, education, employment and access to programs. Through discussions with Interior Health, it is recommended that the City enter into a formal partnership to collaborate our efforts and make positive impacts to the City of West Kelowna’s health and wellness through collaborating on city plans, policies and initiatives using a health and equity lens, supporting community level strategies and actions to improve the health of the community and building community capacity through city staff and community organizations.
