Traffic Advisory - Partial closure of Stevens Road starts next week
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Thursday, Sept. 9, 2021
Starting Tuesday, Sept. 14, crews will begin phase one of construction on the roundabout at the Shannon Lake-Bartley-Stevens intersection. Phase one includes relocating overhead and underground utilities, and building a retaining wall and portions of the new roundabout.
Construction is anticipated to continue through December 2021, subject to weather conditions and other factors.
To accommodate phase one construction, Stevens Road from the Bartley-Shannon Lake intersection to Juliann Road will be closed to vehicle traffic at all times for approximately 12 weeks. We anticipate crews will re-open the intersection in early December when work is complete and updates to the community will be issued prior to opening. Keeping a portion of Stevens Road closed during construction will shorten the overall construction timeframe.
A detour will be in place on Byland Road to Juliann Road for motorists and access to Byland Road from Stevens Road (via Juliann) will be maintained. Drivers, cyclists and pedestrians are advised to proceed through the detour with caution.
All area businesses will remain accessible and the contractor has placed digital signs along Highway 97 and Shannon Lake and Stevens Roads to help motorists navigate this area during the closure. Emergency vehicle, transit and alternate business access will be maintained at all times.

Council’s 2021-2022 Strategic Priorities Invest in Infrastructure objectives include upgrades to the Shannon Lake-Bartley-Stevens intersection to enhance safety, access and traffic flow. The project also includes active transportation upgrades along the Shannon Lake corridor, which includes bike lane and sidewalk improvements from McDougall Creek Bridge on Shannon Lake Road to the Westlake Road roundabout. Council’s investment will promote economic prosperity, contribute to health, well-being and community vitality and reduce emissions.
Thank you to residents, motorists and businesses for their patience during construction. To learn more about the Shannon Lake-Bartley-Stevens roundabout project visit ourwk.ca/shannon-lake-roundabout.
