Temporary traffic pattern changes begin June 19 for section 2 of Shannon Lake Road Project
Date of Issue: Wednesday, June 18, 2025
Starting tomorrow, crews are scheduled to continue work on the second planned section of the Shannon Lake Active Transportation Corridor Project.
During this time, a single-lane alternating traffic pattern will be in effect on weekdays from 2649 Shannon Lake Road to Golf Course Drive for approximately one month.
Single-lane alternating traffic schedule
- Thursday, June 19 and Friday, June 20: In effect from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
- Remainder of the project: In effect from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
The construction schedule is subject to weather conditions, contractor schedule changes, and other factors.
What work is being done
This section of the project will enhance pedestrian and cyclist safety by adding 400 metres of sidewalk, bike lanes, and streetlighting.
Following the completion of the first section of the Shannon Lake Road project, additional budget became available, allowing the City to include interim safety upgrades at the Tallus Ridge intersection. These improvements are essential to address both current and future traffic safety needs and required extra design work, utility coordination, and collaboration with the nearby golf course.
Although this additional work was not part of the original schedule and has contributed to delays, it was necessary to ensure a safer, more efficient intersection for the long-term.
The City reminds motorists to drive with caution through the construction zone and allow extra space for roadside workers.
Pedestrian access will be maintained, and cyclists are encouraged to follow posted detours or dismount through the construction zone. Access for emergency vehicles and transit will be maintained at all times.
Residents and motorists are thanked for their patience while this essential infrastructure work is completed.
