Temporary closures of Stevens Road begin Monday

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Thursday, July 7, 2022

Beginning on Monday, July 11, two sections of Stevens Road will temporarily close to vehicle traffic to install underground utilities and complete road reconstruction as part of active transportation upgrades in the Shannon Lake Corridor.

From Monday, July 11 to Saturday, July 16, Stevens Road between Ross Road and Juliann Road will be closed to thru traffic.

  • Motorists will be detoured via Western Road between Ross Road and Juliann Road.

  • Stevens Road is anticipated to re-open the morning of Saturday, July 16, subject to weather conditions and contractor schedule changes.

  • Once this work is complete, crews will move west on Stevens Road to the next stretch of work.

Monday, July 18 to Saturday, July 23, Stevens Road between Juliann Road and Dominion Road will be closed to thru traffic to complete similar underground and road work along this section of the road.
  • Motorists will be detoured via Highway 97 to Ross Road or Bartley Road.
  • Stevens Road is anticipated to re-open the morning of Saturday, July 23, subject to weather conditions and contractor schedule changes.

For the safety of crews working on site, the work area will be closed to motorists to accommodate deep excavation work. During both road closures, all area businesses will remain open and the contractor will place signage in key locations to help everyone navigate to their destinations:

  • Transit, pedestrian, cycling, and access for emergency services will be maintained during the closures.
  • For businesses located within the work area, the contractor will coordinate access directly with these businesses as work progresses.
Following these closures, Stevens Road will re-open with traffic controls in place, including reduced speed zones, sections of single-lane alternating traffic and limited street parking along the construction route.
As part of the next stages of construction, crews will complete road paving and active transportation upgrades between Bartley Road and Westlake Road and on Bartley Road South to Highway 97.
Once the project is complete later this summer, the community will have access to over two kilometers of additional bike lanes, sidewalks and lighting upgrades from Shannon Lake Road Bridge to the Westlake Road Roundabout.
We thank the community for their patience and understanding while we complete these necessary road and active transportation upgrades.
