Provide feedback on draft regulations for Short Term Rentals in West Kelowna

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Monday, Nov. 30, 2020
West Kelowna Council has requested public consultation on the draft regulations for Short Term Rentals before moving forward in the New Year.
Council recognizes the importance of rental accommodations in our community to homeowners, long-term renters and tourism. Council has decided that if Short Term Rentals are to operate in West Kelowna, the City must regulate them.
Learn more about the draft regulations and complete the questionnaire through our project webpage at westkelownacity.ca/shorttermrentals. The questionnaire closes Jan. 3. The questionnaire is designed to inform and guide the decision making process with respect to the draft regulations.
Not online? Contact the project team at 778-797-8830 or dev.services@westkelownacity.ca to arrange for a paper copy.
In the New Year, staff will review feedback, revise the draft document, and provide a finalized Short Term Rental Regulations to Council for consideration in spring 2021.
Staff anticipates that Short Term Rentals would allow the rental of a portion of an operator’s primary residence, or the entire residence when they are away, for periods of less than 30 days. Staff further anticipates that they would not be permitted in secondary suites or carriage houses. Parking requirements and maximum occupancies are also under consideration
The City has created the draft regulations through a review of local and regional regulations and Council’s guiding principles, which prioritize mitigating potential negative impacts to neighbourhoods and protecting the long-term rental inventory.
