Nomination period open for general local election

Starting today, candidates for the 2026 general local election can submit their completed Notice of Nomination to the Chief Election Officer, at West Kelowna City Hall, 3731 Old Okanagan Hwy between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Nomination papers must be filed by 4 p.m. on Sept. 11 for candidates to be officially declared as a candidate for City Council or School District No. 23 Board of Education Trustee.

Nomination packages are available for pick up at City Hall or online at westkelownacity.ca/election. Appointments are encouraged by emailing elections@westkelownacity.ca but are not required. Nomination packages are available for the offices of Mayor (one), Councillor (six) and School Trustee (one), for a four-year term (2026-2030).

To be eligible to run for local office, candidates must be a Canadian citizen, be at least 18 years old on general election day, have lived in British Columbia for at least six months before the nomination date, and not be disqualified from holding office.

Candidates are encouraged not to wait until the final day to pick up and submit their nomination documents. The City of West Kelowna requires candidates for City Council to have 25 nominators who are qualified electors of the municipality and two nominators for School Trustee. A $100 refundable deposit is also required for School Trustee candidates only. Nominators must be eligible voters who either live in, or own a property in, West Kelowna.

Campaign signs

Campaign signs may be displayed beginning today, Sept. 1 and must be removed by the end of the day on Oct. 18, the day following general voting day. For more information about campaign signs, see the City of West Kelowna Sign Bylaw No. 0250 Section. 6.6

Voting days

West Kelowna’s general local election voting will take place on Saturday, Oct. 17, with advance voting days on Oct. 7, 13, and 15. Special voting opportunities and voting by mail will also be available to help ensure all eligible voters can participate.

Mail Ballot Packages

Starting Friday, Sept. 4, apply online to have your Mail Ballot Package mailed to you or available for pickup.
