Mayor Milsom Reminds the West Kelowna Community to Remain Informed, Calm and Vigilant During COVID-19

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

March 31, 2020

West Kelowna Mayor Gord Milsom would like to remind the West Kelowna community to remain informed, calm and vigilant and adhere to recommendations and orders to prevent the spread of COVID-19. This is particularly important at this critical juncture as stated by BC’s Provincial Health Officer.

Mayor Milsom was advised by Interior Health Authority that a group of foreign workers at Bylands Nurseries Ltd. is quarantined and under investigation for COVID-19. Interior Health is confident that the risk of exposure to the general public is low.

However, the City is taking all precautionary measures and is pausing the tree delivery for those who purchased trees as part of the City’s Urban Re-Leaf Program. The City asks Urban Re-Leaf tree purchasers to contact staff for further information about the program at info@westkelowncity.ca.

“Our Council would like to remind the public to continue to adhere to all recommendations and orders from BC’s Provincial Health Officer,” says Mayor Milsom. “We’re keeping our staff and community informed based on the updates from the BC Ministry of Health, particularly with today’s update being so close to home. We’ll also continue to support Bylands in West Kelowna and we know they are taking the necessary measures in collaboration with the Interior Health Authority during these challenging times. Please, we must all adhere to physical distancing, self-isolate if we are feeling sick, wash our hands and do not touch our face. These are critical measures we must all comply with to stop the spread of COVID-19.”
