March 24 Council Meeting Moved to Westbank Lions Hall to Permit Social Distancing

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
March 20, 2020

The City of West Kelowna will move the March 24 Council meeting to a larger venue to ensure social distancing, as recommended by health authorities, to prevent the spread of novel coronavirus (COVID-19).

Council Chambers in City Hall is too small to permit the six-foot required distance between the Mayor, six Councilors, and the staff that need to be in attendance. The Westbank Lions Community Centre has a much larger square footage, at 2,400 square feet, than Council Chambers, which is about one-third the size.

Maintaining social distancing and limiting small gatherings are the city’s top priority while we all work together to prevent the spread of COVID-19. As the public must be restricted from attendance in the hall, we will broadcast the meeting to ensure that Council business remains open to the media and the community.

Attendance at the meeting will be limited to no more than 50 members of Council, staff and required attendees who will adhere to the social distancing requirements.
