Let’s celebrate Public Works staff and help keep them safe, West Kelowna
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Wednesday, May 19, 2021

Public works staff are the core of our community, making it the place we love to live, work and play and ensuring we have the services we rely on around the clock and so often take for granted – arenas and other city facilities, parks, roads and sidewalks, sanitary and storm sewers, waste collection, water and much more.
May 16 to 22 is National Public Works Week, and the 2021 theme is Stronger Together, which is now more important than ever, during the pandemic. We invite you to join us and other cities across Canada to recognize the many municipal staff and City contractors in Public Works who help keep our communities strong and resilient. Show your appreciation to these staff as you see them around town.
We also take this opportunity to remind you to be careful in Cone Zones for the safety of crews everywhere. Orange cones are often the only thing separating them from your vehicle. Here’s what we ask in roadside work zones:
- Slow down and drive with care.
- Pay attention, minimize distractions and leave your phone alone.
- Obey road signs, traffic cones and directions given by traffic control people; it is the law.
