Crews are winter ready (1)

Date of Issue: Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2025

With winter weather in the forecast, City of West Kelowna crews and roads maintenance contractor AEL, are ready to roll out.

In preparation for incoming weather, crews will apply brine to designated city streets. As the snow falls, crews will maintain city streets based on our best practices Roads Priority System, which prioritizes the most travelled routes first to ensure they remain passable for emergency crews, BC Transit, and essential supply chains and services.

Please visit westkelownacity.ca/snow to view our Roads Priority Map and learn more about winter roads maintenance services for more than 260 kilometres of streets in the City of West Kelowna.

Help crews clear the way

Residents play an important role during snow events.

Help crews by:

  • Parking off-street: Avoid street parking for up to 48 hours after snowfall ends to allow plows to work efficiently.
  • Clearing sidewalks: Remove snow and ice from sidewalks and walkways bordering your property.
  • Keeping streets clear: Avoid shoveling snow from driveways and sidewalks back onto the road.
  • Maintaining access: Pile snow on your property and keep fire hydrants and storm drains accessible.

Please be patient as crews must prioritize main thoroughfares first, for emergency crews, BC Transit, and essential supplies and services. If crews have not been to your street within 48 hours after the snow stops, please submit an online service request during business hours, Monday to Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Afterhours, please call AEL at 1-866-353-3136.
