Snow and ice control are conducted on City of West Kelowna streets in the following order:
- Priority 1: Arterial and collector roads, transit routes and roads with steep grades
- Priority 2: School zones and/or school bus routes; town centres and population centres
- Priority 3: All other local and rural roads

Here's what we ask our residents to do to help us clear the way:
- Park off street for up to 48 hours after the snowfall ends. Several incidents occur every winter where plows cannot get passed parked cars to clear streets. Under Traffic Bylaw Section 12.1 (ad), no parked vehicle can impede, prohibit, or obstruct a City maintenance function including snow control and street sweeping. Ticket Bylaw Schedule 16 allows fines of $50 per offence.
- Don't shovel snow from driveways and sidewalks back onto the street. This can impact the plow driver's work and create a driving hazard.
- Pile snow on your property and keep storm drains and fire hydrants as clear as possible.
- Windrows left by passing plows are inevitable. Plows direct snow to the right, so when shoveling, pile snow to the left (when facing your property) and plows will drag less snow across your access.
- Remove snow and ice from sidewalks bordering your property. The city only removes snow and ice from select sidewalks that are adjacent to civic buildings, parks and walkways.
- Drive according to conditions and use good winter tires.
For snow and ice control on Highway 97, 97C, Westside Road, Peachland, Westbank First Nation and rural areas outside the City of West Kelowna, call AIM Roads. If you live in a strata complex, check with your board or management company on snow and ice control from roads and walkways.
Garbage Carts - Winter Placement
During heavy snowfall and poor road conditions, garbage collection may be delayed.
If your regular collection day is missed, collection will take place on the following day, weather conditions permitting. In extreme weather conditions, collection may be delayed more than one day. Residents whose waste has not been collected should continue to leave bins out until the haulers can get to them. Please clear snow from the lid as much as possible. Please also place winter carts carefully so they don't obstruct road clearing efforts.
