Council to receive consultation summary: Official Community Plan, Phase 2
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Friday, Oct. 22, 2021
Council will receive a report and consultation summary for the October 26 Regular Council Meeting that includes the key themes heard from the community during Phase 2 of the Official Community Plan consultation process.
The draft consultation summary, What We Heard – Fall 2021, identifies community perspectives related to housing, transportation, the town centre, neighbourhoods, the natural environment and other key themes that will help shape the city’s growth over the next 20 years.
During Phase 2, feedback from the public and stakeholders was gathered through a series of pop-up events, online engagement activities and stakeholder meetings. During the consultation period more than 300 residents shared their ideas for growth with city staff at 10 pop-up locations across the city and hundreds more participated using interactive online tools at OurWK.ca.
What We Heard – Fall 2021 builds on community input received during Phase 1, which culminated in City Council endorsing, on February 24, 2021, the first-ever community-inspired vision – Our Community Vision 2020-2040.
Input received during Phase 1 and Phase 2 consultation will be used to develop a preferred growth concept that shows possible futures for West Kelowna.
The next phase of consultation begins later this fall, pending Council’s direction, when the City will be looking for community input on the preferred growth concept.
