Support Pink Shirt Day on Feb. 22

In honour of Pink Shirt Day next week, Council was dressed in pink and encouraged our community to support kindness and anti-bullying programs by wearing pink on Wednesday, Feb. 22.

2023 Grant in Aid requests

Council approved cash Grants in Aid totaling $113,828 to 17 not-for-profit groups who provide valuable social and community services to West Kelowna. Council approved in-kind Grants in Aid of $27,674 to five not-for-profit groups to cover facility rentals. Visit westkelownacity.ca/budget for more information.

Zoning Bylaw Amendment for 2741 Auburn Road

Council gave first reading to Zoning Bylaw Amendment for 2741 Auburn Road to rezone the property to accommodate construction of a 401-unit apartment development. Council also directed staff to schedule second reading pending further traffic review and analysis and determine necessary off-site improvements.

New dog park at Wildhorse Park

Council approved a new dog park at Wildhorse Park, located in the Smith Creek neighbourhood. Staff are continuing to explore opportunities to increase dog parks throughout the city, particularly in Westbank Centre.

SILGA Resolution for FireSmart and Wildfire Mitigation Funding

Council adopted a resolution calling for improvements and increases to FireSmart and Wildfire Mitigation Funding and directed staff to forward the endorsed recommendation for consideration by the Southern Interior Local Government Association. If endorsed, the resolution will be submitted to the Union of BC Municipalities for consideration at their annual meeting. To read the full resolution, see the report to council.
