City of West Kelowna sets up typical, precautionary sand bagging stations

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

April 02, 2020

Crews have now delivered sand and sandbags to the usual lakefront locations throughout the City of West Kelowna, should residents need to make any flood preparations later this season.

The City stocks these convenient locations every year as a service to residents to help in cases where seasonal flooding has affected their properties in the past.

In keeping with COVID-19 prevention guidelines, please practice social distancing at the stations, bring your own shovels, and wear gloves and adhere to all other health recommendations, such as hand washing and not touching your face.

Staff will monitor and replenish stockpiles as needed at the following locations (map attached):

  1. Beachnut Park at the corner of George Court and Whitworth Road.
  2. Hitchner Park at the corner of Hitchner and Jennens Roads.
  3. Fire Station No. 34 at the corner of Gates and Glenrosa Roads.
  4. Kinsmen Park at the southwestern corner of Shannon Lake and Asquith Roads.
