City of West Kelowna seeks volunteers to complete accessibility audits in Westbank Centre

Date of Issue: Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2025

The City of West Kelowna is seeking up to 10 community members to help review the accessibility of active transportation infrastructure in Westbank Centre. This work will help the City identify and address barriers to mobility within the community and make sidewalks, bus stops, bike lanes, and intersections safer and more inclusive for everyone.

This pilot project, funded by Age-friendly BC, supports Goal Three of the City's Accessibility Plan: identifying barriers through accessibility audits and creating action plans for improvements.

About the project

The City will train community members to complete accessibility audits that help improve active transportation infrastructure in Westbank Centre.

After participants receive training, they will conduct audits between November 2025 and February 2026 and share feedback to help shape future infrastructure projects and ensure diverse experiences are reflected in City planning.

Who can apply

We are looking for up to 10 people to join the committee and help complete audits of active transportation infrastructure in West Kelowna.

The City welcomes applications from all residents, including people with lived or living experience of disability or who experience transportation or mobility challenges.

Why get involved

This is your chance to make a real difference in creating safer, more inclusive spaces for all and:

  • Identify barriers that affect older adults and people with disabilities.
  • Contribute your lived experience to improve community design.
  • Earn a $25/hour honorarium for approximately 10 hours of participation.

Focus area: Westbank Centre

Westbank Centre was selected because planned infrastructure upgrades provide an opportunity to integrate accessibility improvements early in the process.
