What’s new - Cemetery Seasonal Maintenance Notice

To all visitors of Westbank Cemetery,

We understand and deeply respect the importance of honouring loved ones interred at Westbank Cemetery with memorials such as flowers and mementos.

As part of our ongoing efforts to maintain the cemetery grounds, the City of West Kelowna Cemetery team has been conducting seasonal clean-up work throughout the spring and summer.

During this time artifacts that do not comply with the Cemetery Bylaw, including artificial flowers, glass vases and mementos were removed from interment sites, section by section. The Cemetery team will be conducting a final clean up of all interment sites throughout September and these items will not be retained so we kindly encourage families to collect any memorial items they wish to keep before Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2025.

West Kelowna Cemetery Bylaw adopted

At the Tuesday, March 25, 2025 Regular Council Meeting, Council adopted the West Kelowna Cemetery Bylaw, which raises user fees to support improved maintenance and sustainable future operations of the cemetery.

About the Cemetery

With beautiful lake and mountain views, grassy meadows, pine groves and meandering pathways, the Westbank Cemetery provides a place of perfect tranquility with a variety of arrangement options. The 8.2-acre cemetery is located at 3200 Elliott Road and is the traditional resting place for community families and pioneers since 1925.

The Westbank Cemetery provides:

Interment sites (cremation & burial)
Columbaria and Mausolea
In memoriam benches and trees
Memorial marker installations
Memorial wall
Ossuary

Hours

The cemetery gates (pedestrian only) are open every day, from dawn to dusk.

The cemetery office is located at 2515 Bartley Court, West Kelowna.
Office hours are by appointment only, Monday to Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Cremation, In-Ground Plots

Cremation, In-Ground Ossuary and Memorial Wall

Ossuary Plot Fee: $413
Ossuary Placement: $126

Our Ossuary provides the option to place cremated remains in a co-mingled container that has been placed deep within the ground. Names of those interred in the Ossuary can be placed on the Memorial Wall.

Cremation, Above-Ground Plots

Columbaria & Family Estates: The City has two columbaria buildings and two family estates for the inurnment of cremated remains. Each columbaria niche can accommodate two urns and the family estates can accommodate six urns.

Traditional Burial Plots, In-Ground

Burial Plot Fees: $4,000

Traditional burial plots can accommodate up to two caskets and not more than six cremated remains, or eight cremated remains.

Phased Improvements

Since 2013, the City of West Kelowna has invested approximately $1.3 million to expand and transform the Westbank Cemetery into a memorial garden, capture the surrounding natural beauty and create a place of serenity that honours the memory of loved ones.

The cemetery has been expanded along the eastern slope to include:

A memorial path with cremation plots
A memorial wall
An interment meadow
An ossuary
Pathways and staircases

The eastern viewpoint has been enhanced to include:

Benches
Columbaria and mausoleums
Lawn

The cemetery was transformed from a barren sand and rock landscape to a memorial garden with meandering pathways lined with thousands of trees, shrubs and perennials, with irrigation and fencing.
