Willow Park Closed for Essential Flood Recovery Work

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

April 08, 2020

The City of West Kelowna will close Willow Park from April 9 to June 1 to repair damaged done during historic 2017 flooding. Crews will begin moving in materials at the end of this week; construction will begin the week of April 13. Crews expect to reopen the beach component of the park earlier, by the beginning of May.

The restoration work will involve:

  • Removal of the gabion wall at Willow Point
  • Stabilization and restoration of shoreline with naturalized river rock and gravel slopes
  • Park, beach and volleyball court restoration

The project is on a strict schedule in order to comply with provincial permits that expire at the end of the month.

Council awarded the construction contract for the Willow Park Shoreline Recovery Works to Landmark Solutions Ltd., for a total value of $471,314.50 excluding taxes. The contract is funded 80 per cent by the Province of British Columbia’s Disaster Financial Assistance Program. The City anticipates its costs will be $95,000, thanks to the provincial assistance.
