Date of Issue: Thursday, Feb. 13, 2025

Hudson Road watermain repairs are completed, road repaving will require additional time, but the street is reopened to traffic, and final testing is being completed prior to the precautionary boil water notice being lifted for the 26 affected homes.

As of 4:00 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 13:

  • The water main repair is completed; however, 26 residents remain on a precautionary boil water notice until test results are received, hopefully over the long weekend, at which time we would provide another update on the status of the notice. Please see below for the list of addresses that remain on the precautionary boil water notice.
  • Hudson Road is re-opened; intermittent delays are possible for clean up. The road trench is refilled, and the City of West Kelowna is accessing the required equipment to temporarily repave the road. Permanent repaving will be competed in warmer weather this spring. Motorists are asked to proceed with caution and follow road caution signs until clean-up work and repaving through the area can be completed.
  • Pedestrians can pass safely along the sidewalk on Hudson Road between Guidi Road and Westlake Road.
  • Transit service on Routes 20 Lakeview and Bear Creek 29 are operating on their normal schedules through the area.

A precautionary boil water notice remains in effect, until further notice, for 26 residences on Hudson and Paula Roads:

  • 1009, 1019, 1029, 1039, 1049, 1059, 1079, 1089, 1099, 1107, 1119, 1129, 1139, 1149, 1159, 1169, 1179 and 1189 on the south/southwest side of Hudson Road.
  • 1060, 1098, 1132, 1142, 1150 and 1152 on the north/northeast side of Hudson Road.
  • 2643 and 2653 on the north/northeast side of Paula Road.

The high velocity flows have stirred up sediment in pipes in some adjacent, but not all, areas of the Rose Valley Water Service Area. Residents are advised not to use discolored water, but to first run their cold taps until clear. If, after 10 minutes, the water has still not run clear, please call Public Works Utilities at 778-797-2246.

As an added precaution, parents in the Rose Valley Water Service Area are advised to use an alternative source of water to reconstitute baby formula. The City will complete further tests at key locations throughout the system, as part of our operating best practices, prior to lifting this recommendation.

The bulk filling station at Shannon Lake and Asquith Roads remains open to provide an alternative source of water. Bring clean bottles for filling. Use caution due to icy conditions.

Thank you to everyone – customers, motorists, pedestrians and transit users – for patience during these significant repairs. Thanks also to all crews with the City of West Kelowna, FortisBC, AEL, AIM, contractors, emergency responders, and others who assisted with response, repairs and restoration.
