Shannon Lake-Bartley-Stevens active transportation improvements to begin later this month
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Thursday, Sept. 2, 2021
Upcoming active transportation upgrades are coming soon to the Shannon Lake corridor to enhance safety and improve traffic flow and will be constructed in two phases.
Beginning the week of September 13, crews will start underground and overhead utility relocation work at the Shannon Lake-Bartley-Stevens intersection for construction of a new roundabout. Construction is anticipated to continue through December 2021, subject to weather conditions and other factors.
Crews will begin mobilizing to the northeast portion of the intersection this week in preparation for upcoming work. Site mobilization will not impact traffic at the intersection.
During site mobilization and construction, all area businesses will remain open and digital signage will be placed along key routes to help motorists with navigation to these destinations. Emergency vehicle and alternate business access will be maintained.
More information about detour routes, traffic pattern changes and intersection closures will be announced closer to the start of construction. Advanced notice will be provided to the public prior to any intersection closures.

Council’s 2021 – 2022 Strategic Priorities Invest in Infrastructure objectives include active transportation upgrades to the Shannon Lake corridor to enhance safety, access and traffic flow.
- Phase 1 of the project includes relocating overhead and underground utilities, and building a retaining wall and portions of the new roundabout at the Shannon Lake-Bartley-Stevens intersection.
- Phase 2 of active transportation upgrades on Shannon Lake Road are expected to begin next year. Upgrades include completion of the roundabout, and construction of sidewalks and bike lanes east of Dominion Road to Westlake Road.
The $6.15 million intersection improvement and active transportation project is funded in part by provincial and federal grants and Road Development Cost Charges. This investment will promote economic prosperity, contribute to health, well-being and reduce emissions.
The project is expected to be complete in summer 2022.
We appreciate residents and businesses for their patience during construction.
