Outgoing Council members honoured

West Kelowna City Council held its final regular Council meeting of their 2018-2022 term. With Councillors Findlater and Zilkie not seeking re-election, a presentation from Mayor Gord Milsom was done to honour their service and to recognize the support of their families. A special acknowledgement was given to Councillor Findlater for his leadership and dedication throughout his career. Councillor Findlater has served our community as a Councillor for five years and as Mayor for 10 years (photo left). Councillor Zilkie was also honoured for his four years of service to the community, and Council thanked both gentlemen for their service.

Notice of Motions supported

Two Notice of Motions were brought forward by Councillor Jayson Zilkie. The first motion recommended that organizations applying for Grant in Aid from the City have the opportunity to present at a Committee of the Whole prior to budget deliberations in 2023. The second motion was supported to schedule a comprehensive update on the status of the City’s short term accommodation regulations and process.

Application to Agricultural Land Commission

Council authorized a retroactive application to the Agricultural Land Commission for fill placed on 3853 Brown Road to proceed.

Glenrosa development third reading deferred

Council postponed consideration of third reading, to amend the Official Community Plan and Zoning bylaws for a townhouse development proposal for approximately 45 units at 2734 and 2736 Lower Glenrosa Road to a future meeting.

Council supports provincial grant application for multi-use path

Council directed staff to apply to the BC Active Transportation Infrastructure Grant, seeking the maximum contribution of up to $500,000 to support the construction of Phase 2 of the Boucherie Road Multi-use Path between Ogden and Gregory Roads.

Permissive tax exemptions granted for 2023

Council adopted the 2023 Property Tax Exemption Bylaw, which will grant full or partial exemptions from property taxes next year to 14 places of worship and private schools and six not-for-profit organizations.
