Donation keeps West Kelowna’s Urban ReLeaf program growing
Council thanked the West Kelowna Daybreak Rotary for a $4,500 donation toward the 2022 Urban ReLeaf tree planting program. The donation will contribute 20 additional mature trees to the City’s urban canopy to create a greener community and take action towards climate change. Residents can order their own trees at cost through the 2022 Urban ReLeaf program, with presales starting in March and pick up taking place in early April at Mount Boucherie Community Centre. Council considers more options for public meeting participation
Council gave first, second and third readings to a Procedure Amendment Bylaw that, if adopted, would make in person attendance at committee, regular and special meetings the standard, preferred option; however, electronic participation or hybrid meetings, permitting both in person and electronic participation, could be granted, as an exception, with mayoral authorization. View a copy of the proposed Bylaw at calendar.westkelownacity.ca/councilcommittee.
Development permit with variances issued in Sailview Bay
Council authorized a development permit with variances for 22 – 901 Westside Road, increasing the maximum building wall height from nine to 10.46 metres and the utmost driveway slope from 12 to 16.8 per cent. The minimum private access easement setback was reduced from 4.5 to 1.6 metres to accommodate a new third storey garage to be built on an existing single family home on a hillside waterfront lot.
Short term borrowing procedure proceeds as planned for purpose-built City Hall
Council gave first, second and third readings to the temporary borrowing bylaw for West Kelowna’s first purpose-built City Hall as a matter of procedure. This enables the City to borrow only what is required, up to $11 million. Once City Hall/Library Building is completed, the annual transfers to the City Hall Reserve will then be used to repay the long-term loan and result in no new tax increases.
