Decide how many family members the lot will serve and your preferred location. Costs vary by type and area, and additional fees may apply for interment services and memorial monuments. We offer several types of burial and interment lots to meet your family’s needs:

A standard casket plot can accommodate two human remains and up to six cremated remains, or eight cremated remains only.

 In-Ground Cremation Plot

An in-ground cremation can accommodate two cremated remains.

 Columbarium Niche

A columbarium niche plot can accommodate two cremated remains.

 Ossuary

The ossuary is an underground monument for co-mingled cremated remains.

 Memorial Wall

A bronze plaque can be purchased to be placed on our memorial wall in honour of your loved one.

Mausoleum Crypt

The Mausoleum is limited to the entombment of one human remains above ground.

 Family Estate

The Family Estate can accommodate up to six cremated remains in a private family space.

 Green Burial Options

A Green Burial will be used for the interment of two human remains and the secondary interment of not more than two cremated remains, or where no interment of human remains is intended, the interment of the Cremated Remains of not more than eight persons.

Headstones, Size, and Style

Planning ahead also means considering memorialization. Westbank Cemetery provides guidance on approved headstone sizes, materials, and styles that complement the beauty and dignity of our grounds.

Purchasing

A valid ID is required to purchase a plot. If you are making the arrangements on behalf of a loved one, proof of control of disposition is required. We’ll handle and prepare all necessary paperwork for you.

Frequently Asked Questions

What day and time can an interment be arranged?

Interments (regular or cremation) can be scheduled Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Premium charges apply for a Saturday interment; no interments are scheduled on a Sunday or holiday observed by the City.

Are cremated remains permitted on a full burial lot?

Yes. A full burial lot can accommodate two caskets and up to six cremated remains or eight cremated remains only. Each interred person requires a Right of Interment and must be a family member of the original occupant.

What is a columbarium?

A columbarium is a structure designed to hold urns that contain cremated remains. It’s made up of small spaces called niches, and each niche holds one or two urns. Westbank Cemetery has three Columbariums.

What is an ossuary?

An underground receptacle for co-mingled cremated remains. Westbank Cemetery has a memorial wall across from the Ossuary where a bronze memorial plaque can be purchased.

Can all plots have any type of memorial marker?

When choosing a plot location, it is recommended to contact the Cemetery office to review memorial marker standards as there are size and type limitations for different plot types and locations.

Where can I purchase a memorial marker?

From a monument company or online monument suppliers. Bronze plaques for Columbarium and Ossuary are purchased through the City of West Kelowna.
