Watermain flushing complete in Shannon Lake, moves to Pritchard neighbourhood

Date of Issue: Tuesday, April 28, 2026

The City of West Kelowna has completed watermain flushing in Zones RV05B and C (see map) in the Shannon Lake neighbourhood and the precautionary water quality advisory for the two zones has been rescinded.

Re-flushing in Pritchard Drive area

The Pritchard Drive neighbourhood requires additional flushing starting Wednesday, April 29, 2026. During flushing, which is expected to continue for several days, an isolated water quality advisory will be in effect within this area only. Please, see our interactive map to determine if your household is one of the approximately 150 in the area. We will advise residents as soon as the work is completed and the related water quality advisory for the Pritchard Drive neighbourhood can be rescinded.

No water quality advisories are in effect elsewhere in the City of West Kelowna’s Powers Creek or Rose Valley Water Service Areas.

More about watermain flushing and why water quality advisories are issued

Flushing is not related to operations of the Rose Valley Water Treatment Plant, which is delivering clean drinking water that meets federal and provincial guidelines.

Flushing is a best practices program within the post-treatment distribution system that forces high velocity water through hydrants to scour accumulated sediment from the pipes, from the many years predating the benefits from the treatment plant. Some discoloured/turbid water scoured from the watermains may make its way to your taps. Flushing may also cause water pressure to temporarily change. Visit westkelownacity.ca/flushing for guidance on what to do before, during and after flushing.

For information about water quality advisories, why they are issued, to whom they apply, and actions to take when one is in effect, please read Interior Health’s Drinking Water For Everyone resources

During flushing, the City provides an alternative source of potable drinking water at the bulk filling station at Shannon Lake and Asquith Roads. Please bring clean bottles for filling.
