Reports of water discolouration in Rose Valley Water Service Area

Date of issue: Oct.5, 2026

Residents in the Rose Valley Water Service Area have reported some discolouration in their water. This is due to seasonal changes creating operational challenges combined with a minor mechanical issue in the permanganate feed system. In consultation with Interior Health, water quality continues to meet the required drinking water guidelines, and no advisory is being issued. The discolouration of the water is not a health concern, but a nuisance aesthetic issue.

The City of West Kelowna tests water quality at both water treatment plants daily and will notify residents of any water quality advisories through email notifications, the website, and through the City’s social media channels.

During commissioning of the new Rose Valley Water Treatment Plant, staff continue to make adjustments to manage the seasonal changes in the source water. This is a normal part of the process of optimizing the new system.
