Playtime is getting an upgrade at Smith Creek Park

The City of West Kelowna will begin construction on a full replacement of the playground at Smith Creek Park beginning Tuesday, Aug. 4. taking approximately three weeks to complete.  

The new playground will replace:

• Swings
• Slides
•  Climbing structures
•  Accessibility features
• Modern engineered wood fibre surfaces will replace the current sand

Existing features that will remain:

•  Enclosed fencing
•  Picnic tables and benches

“Replacing aging playground infrastructure is an important investment in our parks. Playgrounds are a fundamental part of creating welcoming, connected communities. Updated play spaces give children of all ages and abilities a safe, accessible area to explore and be active,” said Patrick Pulak, General Manager of Operations.  “A great playground is more than just a place to play; it’s a place where kids can challenge themselves and make memories. We’re excited to give Smith Creek families a new space to enjoy for years to come.”

BACKGROUND

Located at 2673 Wild Horse Drive, the playground at Smith Creek Park was originally built over 20 years ago.  

With a mix of swings, slides and climbing elements, the playground has served as a great spot for kids to play and experience outdoors. The existing playground has reached the end of its service life and is being fully replaced with modern elements for current and future generations to enjoy.
