West Kelowna is winter ready. Crews are hard at work before, during and after the snow falls to keep our community moving.
Our roads are maintained in priority sequence:
- Priority 1
- Arterial roads, BC Transit routes, and the steepest accesses
- Ensures that the most travelled roads are passable for emergency crews and priority services
- Includes roads such as Boucherie, Glenrosa, Shannon Lake and Westlake
- Priority 2
- Collector roads, other steep accesses, urban centres and school zones
- Includes steep neighbourhood roads such as Auburn, Elliott, Gellatly, Ross and Thacker
- Priority 3
- Neighbourhood streets, no-thru roads, cul-de-sacs, crescents, and rural roads
- Attended to within 48 hours after the snow stops falling

Help do your part
During snow events, we ask residents to help clear the way:
- Park off the street for up to 48 hours after the snowfall ends. This helps plows clear snow from residential areas.
- Pile snow on your property and keep storm drains and fire hydrants as clear as possible. Don't shovel snow from driveways and sidewalks back onto the street.
- Windrows left by passing plows are inevitable. Plows direct snow to the right, so when shoveling, pile snow to the left (when facing your property) and plows will drag less snow across your driveway.
- Remove snow and ice from sidewalks bordering your property. The City is responsible for removing snow and ice from sidewalks that are adjacent to civic buildings, parks and walkways.
- If 48 hours after snow has stopped and crews have not been to your street, please submit an online service request. After hours, please call AEL at 1-866-353-3136.

Questions and Answers
When will crews clear snow or sand my road? |
Roads in West Kelowna are cleared and sanded based on priority. This is to ensure the most heavily used roads and roads required for emergency services are passable during snow events. Local roads are typically considered Priority 3 roads and crews clear them as conditions allow. We begin on Priority 1 routes and shift to Priority 2 once Priority 1 routes are complete. Priority 3 streets wait until crews have finished clearing Priority 2 routes. If more snow falls while clearing is underway, crews work on Priority 1 routes again.
