About the project
We're improving how our community gets around! The $6.15 million active transportation corridor project includes construction of a roundabout at the Shannon Lake-Bartley-Stevens Roads intersection and bike lane and sidewalk improvements east of Dominion Road to Westlake Road. The entire project is expected to be complete in summer 2022.
Council’s 2021 – 2022 Strategic Priorities Invest in Infrastructure objectives include active transportation upgrades to the Shannon Lake corridor to enhance safety, access and traffic flow. This investment will promote economic prosperity, contribute to health, well-being and reduce emissions.
- Phase 1 of the project includes relocating overhead and underground utilities, and building a retaining wall and portions of the new roundabout at the Shannon Lake-Bartley-Stevens intersection. This phase of work is complete.
- Phase 2 of active transportation upgrades on Shannon Lake Road are underway. Upgrades include completion of the roundabout, and construction of sidewalks and bike lanes east of Dominion Road to Westlake Road.
As part of the design for the Shannon Lake-Bartley-Stevens intersection, a thorough review of the current and future traffic demands for the intersection for all vehicle types and other alternative modes of getting around was completed. This independent review took into consideration the near term and what we could expect in the next 20 years.
