In celebration of the completion of the Boucherie Road Upgrade Phase II Project, the City of West Kelowna is holding a ceremonial sabering event Thursday, June 13, 2019 on the corner of Boucherie and Douglas Roads at 2:00 p.m.
The public is welcome to join the Mayor and Council, as well as representatives from wineries along the Westside Wine Trail, project contractors, for the sabering and some socializing. Sabering is a technique used for ceremonial occasions involving using a saber or large knife to open a bottle of champagne.
Non-alcoholic refreshments and snacks will be provided.
The City of West Kelowna thanks the following project funding partners:
- Gas Tax Regionally Significant Fund – Canada and BC - $400,000
- Bike BC – BC Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure – $258,697
- ICBC Road Improvement Program - $123,600
- BC Hydro Community Re-greening Program - $6,000
A City also sends a special thank you to the residents and wineries along the project for their patience during construction.
Work on the $9.1 million project took place from April to December 2018 and involved the construction of:
- 15,300 square metres of asphalt roadway
- 1,200 metres of storm main with varying diametres from 250 mm to 450 mm
- 1,700 metres of 450 mm watermain
- 2,400 metres of concrete curb and gutter
- 4,100 square metres of concrete sidewalk
- 5,700 square metres of cycling track
- 80 ornamental street lights
- Landscape trees, shrubs and irrigation
- Retaining walls
- Roundabouts at Hudson Road/Boucherie Road and Anders Road/Cordova Way/Boucherie Road.
