The City’s annual watermain flushing program is progressing, with crews having now completed work in Zone 1 of the former Sunnyside/Pritchard System (see map); the related isolated, precautionary water quality advisory for Zone 1 has now ended.
Since Thursday, Oct. 10, crews have been conducting watermain flushing in the former Sunnyside/Pritchard System (see map); an isolated, precautionary water quality advisory is required while flushing is underway in Zone 2 and must remain in effect until the work is completed. Crews are working as quickly as possible to complete the work in Zone 2, and we thank customers for their patience.
Flushing forces high-velocity water through hydrants to remove sediment that has accumulated in the distribution system’s mains during the many years prior to the construction of Rose Valley Water Treatment Plant. During flushing, customers in Zone 2 of the former Sunnyside/Pritchard System may continue to experience reduced water pressure and/or discoloration when crews are working at a nearby hydrant.
See our water systems and advisory map to determine if your property is in the service area; and, to learn about what steps customers should take before, during and after flushing, please visit westkelownacity.ca/flushing.
Please visit Interior Health’s Drinking Water Resources For Everyone webpage for Water Quality Advisory information.
Please note, during the watermain flushing program, the City is also providing residents with an alternative free source of drinking water at the bulk filling station at Shannon Lake and Asquith Roads. Bring clean bottles for filling.
We appreciate customers’ patience and understanding during this important maintenance activity.
