More about watermain flushing and why water quality advisories are issued
Flushing forces high velocity water through hydrants to scour accumulated sediment from the pipes, from the many years predating the treatment plant, and some discoloured/turbid water may make its way to your taps. Flushing may also cause your water pressure to temporarily change. Visit westkelownacity.ca/flushing for guidance on what to do before, during and after flushing.
The water quality advisory is for flushing, only in Zones RV05B and C, and is not related to the Rose Valley Water Treatment Plant, which is providing clear, safe drinking water; no other neighbourhoods in the Rose Valley Water Service Area are currently under a water quality advisory. The separate Powers Creek Water Service Area’s plant is also providing clear, safe drinking water and no advisories are active in that system.
For more information about water quality advisories, why they are issued, whom they apply to, and what actions to take when one is in effect, please read Interior Health’s Drinking Water For Everyone resources.
During flushing, the City provides an alternative source of potable drinking water at the bulk filling station at Shannon Lake and Asquith Roads. Please bring clean bottles for filling.

- To help residents know when flushing is occurring in their area, crews will post signs, and residents may hear and see staff and City marked vehicles working at a nearby hydrant or storm sewer or transporting water offsite in a tanker.
- Flushing will occur from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday to Friday, with possible weekend, holiday or evening work.
