Update:
Friday, Oct. 14, 2022
City will continue water main flushing in the Rose Valley-Lakeview Water System to help improve water quality and maintain the water system as part of this year’s flushing program.
Flushing began Aug. 22 in subdivisions in the lower Rose Valley and greater Shannon Lake neighbourhoods and crews have now moved to areas of Lakeview Heights.
Water main flushing involves running water at a high velocity to remove accumulated sediment from the pipe, and users may experience discoloration in the water while flushing is underway. This is a normal result of the flushing process.
Once crews have left the area, residents are advised to run cold water taps until the water runs clear. This process should take a few minutes to complete. If discolouration persists, please call the City of West Kelowna’s Utility Department at 778-797-2246.
A Water Quality Advisory for the Rose Valley-Lakeview Water System remains in place due to above normal turbidity, which limits the effectiveness of chlorine to disinfect microorganisms in the water. Water main flushing can help with alleviating these issues, however, until additional monitoring and testing is completed after flushing, the Water Quality Advisory will remain in effect.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Monday, Aug. 22, 2022
This week, City of West Kelowna crews will begin watermain flushing in the Rose Valley-Lakeview Water System to help improve water quality and maintain the water system as part of the annual flushing program.
Flushing the system will begin today in the lower Rose Valley area, which includes:
- Devon, Hants, Surrey, Somerset and Sussex Roads
- Devon Court and Somerset Court
By mid-week, crews will move to subdivisions within the greater Shannon Lake neighbourhood, where work will continue in various subdivisions until further notice.
Signage will be posted in areas where watermains are being flushed by the crews. As watermain flushing involves running water at a high velocity to remove accumulated sediment from the pipe, users may experience discoloration in the water while flushing is underway. This is a normal result of the flushing process.
Once crews have left the area, residents are advised to run cold water taps until the water runs clear. This process should take a few minutes to complete. If discolouration persists, please call the City of West Kelowna’s Utility Department at 778-797-2246.
A Boil Water Notice for the Rose Valley-Lakeview Water System remains in place due to the presence of total coliform, combined with higher than normal turbidity, which limits the effectiveness of chlorine to disinfect microorganisms in the water. Watermain flushing can help with alleviating these issues, however, until additional monitoring and testing is completed after flushing, the Boil Water Notice will remain in effect.
