FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
November 04, 2019
City of West Kelowna crews are flushing water mains in the Lakeview System over the next several days, focussing on the Shannon Lake Road, Shannon Way and Tallus Ridge areas.
Signs will be posted in areas where crews are flushing mains. Water main flushing involves running water at a high velocity to remove accumulated sediment from pipes; and, Lakeview System users may experience discoloration in the water while flushing is underway. Should residents notice discoloration after flushing is completed in an area, they are advised to turn on their cold tap until the water runs clear.
A Water Quality Advisory has been in place since October 7 due to higher than normal turbidity in the Rose Valley Reservoir which feeds the Lakeview System. The City conducts ongoing monitoring of the Lakeview System and is observing a decrease in turbidity, but cannot yet remove the Water Quality Advisory. The City will advise the public as soon as the advisory can be removed.
The current Water Quality Advisory remains in effect until further notice and recommends that children, the elderly, people with weakened immune systems and anyone wishing to seek additional protection, bring water to a rolling boil for at least one minute, or use an alternate, safe source of water, for brushing teeth, drinking, making baby formula, beverages, food and ice and washing fruits and vegetables. A safe alternative source is the Bulk Water Station at Asquith and Shannon Lake Road. Bring clean hoses and bottles for filling. The tap is on the Asquith Road side of the facility.
A map of Water Quality Advisory areas is posted on the City of West Kelowna's website at www.westkelownacity.ca/waterquality.
