FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Monday, June 28, 2021
Starting Monday, July 5 through Friday, July 9, the Gellatly-Carrington intersection will be completely closed to the public for construction of the concrete apron for the inner circle of the roundabout.
The Gellatly Road South and Elk/Boucherie detours will remain in place while crews complete the forming and pouring of the concrete rollover curb and concrete travel apron. The Gellatly-Carrington intersection will re-open Friday evening, July 9, in time for the weekend.
All area businesses will remain open and motorists are advised to follow speed limits along the detour routes and in and around work zones. Transit service through this intersection during this time will be temporarily paused, and re-instated for the weekend through to project completion.
Following completion of the inner circle, the Gellatly-Carrington intersection will remain closed to the public weekdays from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. (open evenings and weekends) until the end of July to complete boulevard works, line painting and landscaping. To accommodate motorists over the long weekend, the intersection will be open from Thursday, July 1 through to Sunday, July 4.
The Gellatly-Carrington Roundabout Project also includes a three-metre-wide, asphalt multi-use path between Witt and Boucherie Roads, to create a key connection between Westbank Centre and the waterfront, and minor in-stream storm work improvements to Smith Creek. The full project is expected to be complete in September.
