Butt Road and Old Okanagan Highway Intersection Improvement Project
Construction will soon begin on the Butt Road and Old Okanagan Highway intersection to improve safety for all users and enhance connections to key destinations. This project is a strategic priority of Mayor and Council under the Invest in Infrastructure pillar.
The project, which will include an intersection closure and detours (see map below) is anticipated to start in the coming weeks and is expected to be completed by late fall 2025.
Intersection improvements will include:
- Additional left-turn lanes in all directions with permissive left-turns
- A new westbound right-turn lane on Butt Road
- 350 metres of new concrete sidewalk, replacing 95 metres of existing asphalt path
- 640 metres of dedicated bike lanes
- 174 metres of new watermain to replace aging infrastructure
- Drainage improvements at the southwest corner, where high flows in Westbank Creek have resulted in damage to City infrastructure and private property
The $4.35 million project will be constructed throughout the summer.
This is a multi-jurisdictional project carried out in collaboration with the Ministry of Transportation and Transit and Westbank First Nation.

Road upgrades will include:
- 1.1 kilometres of new sidewalks, curbs, and gutters along the west side of Horizon Drive
- 2.2 kilometres of new dedicated bike lanes on both sides of Horizon Drive for safer cycling
- Upgraded street lighting, stormwater improvements, and ditching
- New road markings and signage to enhance visibility and safety
The $2 million project will also be constructed throughout the summer and is anticipated to be completed by late fall 2025.

Road Rehabilitation Program
West Kelowna's road network is inspected annually, and asphalt remediation projects are prioritized based on several factors, including asphalt condition, safety, drainage concerns, and strategic alignment. Rehabilitation generally involves milling and replacing the asphalt surface.
This year’s Road Rehabilitation Program will run from summer through fall and will include upgrades to several roads across the community.
Federal and provincial funding provided under the Canada Community-Building Fund contributes to this program.

Plan Ahead and Stay Safe
We understand that roadwork can be disruptive. Thank you for your patience as we work to deliver long-term improvements to West Kelowna’s streets and neighbourhoods.
Residents are encouraged to plan ahead, use alternative routes where possible, and expect delays and increased traffic on surrounding roads. Please follow posted detour signs and use extra caution in construction zones.
