FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
June 27, 2019
Construction of pedestrian and storm water improvements on the north side of Ross Road, between Brentwood Road and Riffington Place begins Tuesday, July 2 with estimated completion at the end of August, before the start of the new school year and minor hockey season.
Crews must close this section of Ross Road to westbound traffic. Detours will be in place via Brentwood, Applewood and Ponderosa Roads for those trying to access City Hall, Mount Boucherie Secondary School, or Jim Lind Arena and Royal LePage Place. Eastbound traffic may experience minor delays. Motorists please obey signs, traffic control personnel and all speed limits. Please see the included detour map.
The City is closing westbound transit stops within the work zone during construction and is rerouting buses travelling west via Westgate and Cameron Roads. Please use the next nearest stop or the Mt. Boucherie Exchange on Westgate Road. Eastbound stops will remain open. Please see the included transit map.
Garbage, recycling and yard waste pickup and mail delivery will continue on the usual schedules.
Those who have yet to pay their taxes and claim their home owner grants, and prefer to do so in person, are encouraged to attend City Hall this week to avoid construction delays, detours and line ups. Taxes are due Tuesday, July 2 before 4:30 p.m. and, by law, the City automatically charges the 10% penalty after that date and time. Alternatively, home owner grants can be claimed at online.westkelownacity.ca and taxes can be paid online through most financial institutions by selecting West Kelowna - Taxes as the bill payee.
Please account for construction delays and detour time if planning to visit City Hall for business or to attend hockey camps at Royal LePage Place and Jim Lind Arena this summer.
Council awarded Pyramid Excavation Corporation an $881,710 contract to complete the following works:
- 900 square meters of concrete sidewalk
- 900 lineal meters of concrete curb
- 3500 square meters of new asphalt
- Storm water infrastructure
- Street lighting enhancements
