Hydrant flushing will continue to help improve water quality and maintain the water system as part of this year’s flushing program.
Private contractor hydrant flushing begins Monday, Oct. 31:
- Eagle Crescent
- Rose Meadows
- Boundary Pines (3425 East Boundary Road) - Thursday, Nov. 3
- Ingram Place (2477 Ingram Road) - Friday, Nov. 4
- Linden Estates (3854 Brown Road) - Friday, Nov. 4
Hydrant flushing involves running water at a high velocity to remove accumulated sediment from the pipe, and users may experience discolouration in the water while flushing is underway. City crew may also be conducting flushing efforts in advance or following the private hydrant flushing and discolouration may also occur. This is a normal result of the flushing process.
Once crews have left the area, residents are advised to run cold water taps until the water runs clear. This process should take a few minutes to complete. If discolouration persists, please call the City of West Kelowna’s Utility Department at 778-797-2246.
A Water Quality Advisory for the Rose Valley-Lakeview Water System remains in place due to above normal turbidity, which limits the effectiveness of chlorine to disinfect microorganisms in the water. Water main flushing can help with alleviating these issues, however, until additional monitoring and testing is completed after flushing, the Water Quality Advisory will remain in effect.
