FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
August 06, 2020
The City of West Kelowna is now mid-way through the first of two phases of engagement for the #OURWK Community Visioning process. This process will provide direction for the City’s future over the next 20 years and beyond. The City invites all people who care about West Kelowna to take some time to share their thoughts on key topics.\
“It’s important that we continue to hear from as many people as possible, so we can create a vision that reflects the diverse and unique voices that make up West Kelowna,” says Mark Koch, Director of Development Services. “A visioning process only happens once every decade, making this an important opportunity for people to influence where our City focuses next.”
As part of the process, the City has been promoting Weekly Topics to dive deeper into areas that are important for the future. Online workshops to discuss the topics began in early July and two remaining sessions take place in August:
- Wednesday, Aug. 12, 12 p.m. – 1:30 p.m. – Our Community Health and Well-Being & Our Economy
- Wednesday, Aug. 26, 12 p.m. – 1:30 p.m. – Our Growth and Development & Our Housing
These 1.5-hour online workshops allow for a deeper exploration of issues and opportunities, and an opportunity to work with others to brainstorm ideas for the future. Input from these workshops will help lay a foundation for decision-making about policy directions and civic investment in West Kelowna over the coming years.
To participate in a workshop, register online at ourwk.ca; and, take the opportunity to complete our Ideas Questionnaire, Weekly Topic Questionnaires, enter a Photo Challenge, or view backgrounders and videos. New content is posted weekly.
“We’ve already heard many great ideas. A small amount of a person’s time now can truly make a big difference in our community’s future. This is the time for everyone to get involved to share what they really care about and what they want to see in West Kelowna’s future,” says Koch.
The first phase of engagement is scheduled to close Monday, Sep. 21. For more information about #OURWK, visit ourwk.ca.
