Mayor Gord Milsom and members of West Kelowna Council were joined today by representatives of the Westside Wine Trail to take part in a sabering event to officially open Phase 2 of the City’s Boucherie Road – Wine Trail Upgrade project.
Friends, neighbours and project contractors joined in the celebration as well which involved a sabering of a bottle of sparkling wine to mark the occasion. A sabering is a technique used for ceremonial occasions involving using a saber or large knife to open a bottle of sparkling wine.
The City of West Kelowna thanks the following project funding partners:
- Gas Tax Regionally Significant Fund – Canada and BC - $400,000
- Bike BC – BC Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure – $258,697
- Developer contributions - $135,000
- ICBC Road Improvement Program - $123,600
- BC Hydro Community Re-greening Program - $6,000
A City also sends a special thank you to the residents and wineries along the project for their patience during construction.
Work on the $9.1 million project took place from April to December 2018 and involved the construction of:
- 15,300 square metres of asphalt roadway
- 1,200 metres of storm main with varying diametres from 250 mm to 450 mm
- 1,700 metres of 450 mm watermain
- 2,400 metres of concrete curb and gutter
- 4,100 square metres of concrete sidewalk
- 5,700 square metres of cycling track
- 80 ornamental street lights
- Landscape trees, shrubs and irrigation
- Retaining walls
- Roundabouts at Hudson Road/Boucherie Road and Anders Road/Cordova Way/Boucherie Road
