FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Tuesday, March 9, 2021
The City of West Kelowna, in partnership with the Government of Canada and the Province of British Columbia, is pleased to announce that a significant construction period milestone has been achieved with the City’s award of the General Contractor contract for the Rose Valley Water Treatment Plant.
The award of the $45.1 million contract to Maple Reinders was within the project budget and will benefit the West Kelowna community through their proven infrastructure expertise locally and the Okanagan region. Site and civil construction began in spring 2020 and the project completion schedule for 2022 remains unchanged.
This milestone continues to advance Canada and British Columbia’s objectives to build modern, green and resilient communities, and West Kelowna Council’s top priority project within its Strategic Priorities. When operational in 2022, the plant will serve over 18,000 residents representing more than half of West Kelowna’s population. It will also create hundreds of local jobs and supports continued investments in infrastructure and the local economy.
“Modern and efficient water infrastructure is essential to support healthy and resilient communities. I’m happy to see this project moving ahead and supporting good local jobs during these critical times. Canada’s infrastructure plan invests in thousands of projects, creates jobs across the country, and builds stronger communities.”
- Ron McKinnon, Member of Parliament for Coquitlam—Port Coquitlam on behalf of Hon. Catherine McKenna, Canada’s Minister of Infrastructure and Communities
“Our government is committed to helping B.C. communities thrive by supporting the core infrastructure that people depend on in their daily lives. This new facility, funded through the Clean Water and Wastewater Fund, will provide residents and businesses in West Kelowna with safe, clean drinking water that will sustain one of B.C.’s fastest growing communities well into the future.”
- Hon. Josie Osborne, British Columbia’s Minister of Municipal Affairs
“This next phase of major construction will begin in the coming weeks for the Rose Valley Water Treatment Plant with the award of this contract to Maple Reinders. Local jobs will be created that will help keep workers and their families supported, especially during this unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic. On behalf of our West Kelowna Council, we continue to be grateful for the infrastructure grant from our federal and provincial funding partners, and for the significant community support to deliver this project. We very much look forward to strengthening our community and government partnerships ahead.”
-His Worship Gord Milsom, Mayor of the City of West Kelowna
