With winter weather in the forecast, City of West Kelowna crews and roads contractor, AEL, are prepared should snow start to fall.
Crews have applied brine to designated routes to prepare for incoming weather. As the snow falls, equipment will be dispatched according to the following priority system:
Winter roads maintenance priority sequence
- Priority 1 – Arterial roads such as Boucherie, Glenrosa, Shannon Lake and Westlake Roads to ensure that the most travelled roads remain passable for emergency crews, BC Transit and other priority services.
- Priority 2 – Collector roads such as Auburn, Elliott, Gellatly, Ross and Thacker Roads as well as school bus routes, urban centres and school zones, as conditions allow.
- Priority 3 – Neighbourhood streets, no-thru roads, cul-de-sacs and crescents, within 48 hours after the snowfall ends.
Please help our crews clear the way
- Park off-street: Avoid street parking for up to 48 hours after snowfall ends to allow plows to work efficiently.
- Clear sidewalks: Remove snow and ice from sidewalks and walkways bordering your property.
- Keep streets clear: Avoid shoveling snow from driveways and sidewalks back onto the road.
- Maintain access: Pile snow on your property and keep fire hydrants and storm drains accessible.
Tips for safe driving in winter conditions
- Reduce your speed.
- Maintain extra distance between vehicles.
- Keep headlights on at all times.
