UBCM advocacy highlighted
Council attended the UBCM conference in Victoria Sept. 22-26 and met with provincial Ministers to advocate for West Kelowna priorities. Key topics include advancing affordable and seniors housing projects, improving mental health services on the Westside, securing long-term wildfire mitigating funding, accelerating key Hwy 97 intersection improvements, and ensuring fair provincial funding for policing.
Residents encouraged to sign up for e-billing for utility bills
With the postal strike, residents are encouraged to sign up for e-billing to receive their quarterly utility bills and annual property tax notices electronically to avoid late payments when mail is not being delivered.
Transportation Master Plan engagement open
Public engagement for the final draft of the Transportation Master Plan is currently open until Oct. 10.
New Fire Station 32 operational
West Kelowna Fire Rescue began operating out of the new Fire Station 32 on Oct. 8. A grand opening celebration will take place on Friday, Oct. 17
Fall art exhibition
The West Kelowna Art Exhibition is taking place on Sunday, Oct. 19 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Westbank Lions Community Centre. Admission is free and most artwork will be available for purchase.
Royal Canadian Legion requests City to paint commemorative crosswalk
The Royal Canadian Legion provided a presentation and requested a commemorative crosswalk be painted in West Kelowna to honour veterans. Council requested that staff report back on next steps to install the commemorative crosswalk.
Council approves next year’s Council meeting schedule
The 2026 Council Meeting Schedule was approved for next year.
2026 permissive tax exemptions
Council gave first, second and third reading to the proposed 2026 Permissive Tax Exemptions Bylaw.
RCMP School Liaison Officer funding approved
City entered into a four-year funding agreement (2024-2028) for the RCMP School Liaison Officer Program. The agreement reflects a shared funding model with the Regional District of Central Okanagan and District of Peachland based on student population, supporting continued policing presence and safety in local schools.
Zoning bylaw amendment for 2971 Gorman Road
Council gave first, second and third readings to the Zoning Bylaw Amendment for 2971 Gorman Road, and directed that staff schedule the bylaw for consideration of adoption following registration of a Section 219 Covenant to secure servicing and infrastructure works as a condition of zoning.
OCP and Zoning bylaw amendments of 2211 Campbell Road back to agricultural use moves to public hearing
Council gave first and second readings of bylaws to amend the Official Community Plan and zoning for 2211 Campbell Road that, if adopted, will revert back to agricultural use and recreational water use. A public hearing will be scheduled and publicly advertised.
Bylaw amendments to align with Fire Safety Act postponed
Council deferred the bylaw amendments to the Fire Rescue Establishment and Operations Bylaw and the Ticket Information Utilization Bylaw to allow staff to clarify details within the amendments and report back to Council.
Grant to boost regional emergency support services supported
Council supported a regional grant application to the UBCM Community Emergency Preparedness Fund for equipment and training to strengthen Emergency Support Services (ESS) across the Central Okanagan.
Fire Stations roof replacement expenditures approved
Council approved a tender for $400,925 for roof replacement at Fire Station 33 and Fire Station 34.
