Council receives Rose Valley Water Treatment Plant update
The primary contractor is proceeding with site mobilization and obtaining insurance and working with City staff to solidify the final construction schedule. Project updates will be announced early April.
Staff provides Council with City Hall/Library Building update
The City continues to work with the Okanagan Regional Library and the project contractor getting preliminary design ready for the first round of public consultation later this spring.
Congregate housing proposal moves to public hearing
Council gave first and second readings to a Zoning Bylaw amendment that proposes a congregate housing building at 2416 Saddleback Way. Staff will schedule a public hearing.
Council permits zoning amendment for secondary suite
Council adopted a Zoning Bylaw amendment to permit a secondary suite at 2500 Tallus Heights Lane.
Council authorizes development variance for carriage house
Council permitted a development variance at 3125 Thacker Drive to increase the maximum height of a carriage house to two storeys, allowing the roof to be higher than the main house.
Construction on Gellatly/Carrington Roundabout to begin in early April
The City has awarded a $1.33 million contract to Double T Dirtworx to construct a roundabout at the Gellatly/Carrington intersection and a proposed multi-use path between Witt and Boucherie Roads, for a key connection from Westbank Centre to the waterfront. The tender price was below the estimated $2.5 million budget, with 80 per cent covered by development cost charges. Find more project and construction information at ourwk.ca.
Ammonia chiller replacement requires arena closures in slow season
Council approved the closure of Royal LePage Place and Jim Lind Arena for 12 weeks starting May 17 to accommodate replacement of the Ammonia Chiller. For more information, see the City’s project news release at westkelownacity.ca/news.
Council supports Regional Emergency Program grant application
The City of West Kelowna endorsed a Regional District of Central Okanagan proposal to apply to the 2021 Community Emergency Preparedness Fund, in collaboration with local governments, to seek a $125,000 grant that would cover the costs of improving the resiliency of the regional Emergency Operation Centre including training and tabletop exercises for staff and volunteers ensuring successful response procedures in an ever increasing virtual setting.
