Photo Radar Request
Council agreed to request staff draft a Union of BC Municipalities resolution to be submitted for consideration at the UBCM annual meeting in 2019 asking for provincial permission to implement photo radar on local roads at the municipality’s expense. The move stems from consistent and ongoing complaints from residents that speeding is a problem in neighbourhoods throughout West Kelowna.
Upper Sundance Drive Development
Council authorized the issuance of a Development Permit to construct 25 townhomes in six buildings located a 1980 Upper Sundance Drive. The development includes a total of 25 units; two 4-bedroom units, six 3-bedroom units and 17 2-bedroom units. Two parking spaces within a garage are provided for each unit, in addition to five onsite parking spaces for visitors. The proposal includes the development of a pedestrian trail that will provide a formal neighbourhood link to Shannon Springs Park.
Tallus Ridge Development
Council gave first two readings to Official Community Plan and Zoning Bylaw amendments to facilitate development at 2370 Tallus Ridge Drive. The proposed amendments are to facilitate the subdivision of one large multiple family strata lot and one split zoned single family residential/agricultural lot to allow the construction of a 26-unit townhouse strata development. The application will be taken to a public hearing at an upcoming Council meeting.
Benedick Road Development Approved
Council gave final approval for a rezoning application for 2896 Benedick Road in the Casa Loma neighbourhood. The 6.1 hectare property was rezoned from Rural Residential Large Parcel to Single Detached Residential and Rural Residential Small Parcel and the Official Community Plan designation changed from Resource, Park and Natural Areas to Single Family Residential. The development will include up to 37 single family lots and one large rural residential lot.
Neighbourhood Grants
Council agreed to give neighbourhood associations the opportunity to apply for a grant-in-aid to host events of benefit to the community. A reserve of up to $5,000 will be created and associations will need to apply for grants of up to $500 depending on the neighbourhood’s population. The move is part of Council’s interest in supporting community-led celebrations.
