Condolences to family of Sheila Paynter
Council offered deepest sympathies after the passing of Sheila Paynter at 100 years old this week and, on behalf of all the City of West Kelowna, extended their sincerest condolences to the family. Council expressed their admiration for Mrs. Paynter and her energy, kindness, wisdom and love for the community. Mrs. Paynter was very active in the community and a pillar in her family’s popular agricultural businesses.
UBCM Community Excellence Awards application
Council endorsed the application to the UBCM’s Community Excellence Awards, in the Service Delivery category, for the municipality’s response to COVID-19. When the provincial government declared a public health emergency in March to flatten the COVID-19 curve, the City worked efficiently to move service delivery online and adjust other operations to ensure the continuation of essential services. Council also made financial accommodations to help those facing hardships. When the BC Government announced its Re-Start Plan, the City worked closely with the BC Recreation and Parks Association and Return to Sport to modify programs and safely and gradually reopen facilities, playgrounds and other amenities.
Agreement for material removal for future public works yard
Council considered an agreement with Emil Anderson Construction Ltd. (EAC) to remove material from the Public Works Yard at 2515 Bartley Road. The agreement would allow EAC to remove the material, which will serve the works for Rose Valley Water Treatment Plant and avoid costs of infrastructure and leasing of land for storage of equipment from the Public Works Yard. In respect of cost benefits, Council waived the Purchasing Policy.
Temporary Use Permit extension for hardware and feed store
Council approved a three-year extension of a Temporary Use Permit for Lot 31, 2565 Main Street to allow Buckerfields to maintain its outdoor storage area. The permit is required because the storage yard exceeds the size permitted under the property’s commercial zoning. Buckerfields must only store materials directly related to its business, keep the area neat and maintain landscape buffering around the area.
Application withdrawn for 1080 Devon Road
Council rescinded first reading of Official Community Plan Amendment Bylaw No.
0100.58, 2020 and Zoning Amendment Bylaw No. 0154.89, 2020 and abandoned the bylaws. The applicant, who was seeking the amendments to build a church at 1080 Devon Road, has withdrawn the development application
