City of West Kelowna 2023 Holiday Guide

Season’s Greetings, West Kelowna! We wish our community an enjoyable, safe and restful holiday season.

To help serve you better, we have prepared tips and provided schedules to keep you informed about our essential City operations and regional services during the festive season.

City services

City of West Kelowna administrative offices will be closed at 3:00 p.m. Friday, Dec. 22, 2023 and reopen by 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2024 at the following locations:

• City Hall at Mount Boucherie Community Centre at 2760 Cameron Road
• Engineering and Purchasing satellite offices at Lakeview Village at 879 Anders Road
• Operations Building (Parks administration) at 3717 Elliott Road
• Roads and Utilities Building at 2570 Bartley Road
• West Kelowna Fire Rescue Administration at 2708 Olalla Road
• Bylaw Services at Westbank Lions Community Centre at 2466 Main Street

At all times, the City provides emergency and essential services including fire/rescue, policing, water, sewer and winter roads maintenance, and cemetery services. For emergencies, call 9-1-1. For non-emergency policing matters, call 250-768-2880. For other services, call 778-797-1000 or visit westkelownacity.ca/holidayguide.

Crews will maintain winter roads throughout the holidays in priority order. View our roads priority map at westkelownacity.ca/snow. For City roads, please call AEL at 1-866-353-3136. For Highways 97, 97C and Westside Road, call AIM Roads at 1-866-222-4204. For WR Bennett Bridge, contact Protrans at 1-888-769-2925.

Waste and recycling services

This year, garbage, recycling, and yard waste will not be collected on Christmas Day, Monday, Dec. 25, or New Year’s Day, Monday, Jan. 1. Between Dec. 26 and Jan. 6, curbside pick-up will move ahead one day for everyone; for example, residents who normally have collection on Monday should put their carts out on Tuesday, and residents with a Thursday collection day should put their carts out on Friday, etc. For more information on the holiday changes to curbside waste collection, visit rdco.com/recycle or download the Recycle Coach app, to determine your curbside collection schedule.

The Westside Residential Waste and Recycling Centre on Asquith Road is closed Dec. 25 and Jan. 1. It is otherwise open Friday through Monday 7:30 a.m. to 3:50 p.m. Find all waste management information, including Christmas tree drop-off locations, and where to take various recyclables at rdco.com/recycle.

Transit

Buses will run on a Sunday schedule, on Dec. 25 and Jan. 1, and on a Saturday schedule, on Dec. 26. Buses run on a regular schedule on Dec. 24 and from Dec. 27 to Dec. 31 and Jan 2. Visit bctransit.com/kelowna for a complete schedule.

Participate in 2023 Twinkle Tour and annual holiday food drive

We are also encouraging our community to participate in the annual self-guided Twinkle Tour. Learn more and find a digital map at OurWK.ca/twinkletour. While on the tour, or out and about in the City during the holidays, please also consider supporting West Kelowna Fire Rescue’s 26^th Annual Holiday Food Drive, by leaving a non-perishable donation at any one of the four fire halls.
