The City of West Kelowna has launched an Alternative Approval Process (AAP) for long-term borrowing up to $8 million to partially fund the Fire Hall #32 Replacement Project. As a requirement under the Community Charter, this process ensures the West Kelowna community has an opportunity to submit an Elector Response Form should an individual oppose long-term borrowing.
Council has directed staff to ensure that no new tax increases to the community will result from the project, including for long-term borrowing.
If you support long-term borrowing for the Fire Hall #32 Replacement Project, there is nothing you need to do.
The AAP period is open from Tuesday, Feb. 20 through Thursday, March 21, 2024.
An individual who is opposed to long-term borrowing may obtain an Elector Response Form by:
- Downloading a form online at westkelownacity.ca/aap
- Picking one up in person at West Kelowna Municipal Hall, 2760 Cameron Road, during regular office hours
- Requesting an electronic form be sent by emailing legislative.services@westkelownacity.ca
Elector Response Forms must be completed by eligible electors in the City of West Kelowna who are entitled to sign.
Completed Elector Response Forms must be submitted using one of the following options, by Thursday, March 21, 2024, at 4:30 p.m.:
-
Mail or hand delivery to West Kelowna Municipal Hall, 2760 Cameron Road
-
Fax to 778-797-1001
If, after the 30-day AAP period, less than 10 per cent of the approximately 28,098 electors, or less than approximately 2,810 people, submit an Elector Response Form to the City, then Council can proceed with the certification process, and approval of the long-term borrowing would occur with no new tax increases to the West Kelowna community.
